Mayfair’s cheerleaders show tons of school spirit. They prepare for their competions by practicing hard after school.
“I get butterflies before the music comes on; but in the end I feel confident about the performance,” said junior Kaylah Wade.
“I like competing because we’re able to show our talent and school spirit,” said Sophomore Alexandria Kennedy.
The USA Regional competition was on Jan. 16 at Santa Margarita High School; Varsity and JV won first place. Afterwards, on Jan. 31 they competed in the State Championships: Cheer Pros at Long Beach State; where Varsity and JV won first place, again.
Sophomore Jalyn Alexander said, “It’s been a fun year, but I’m proud of how far our cheer team has gone”
“They’ve had an extremely, successful competition season and hopefully we’ll be undefeated,” said Coach Nemec.
The Nationals were March 26-29 at Anaheim Convention Center. Varsity placed 4th out of 26 teams. Junior Varsity placed 2nd.
“They both have excellent chances of winning, so it’s very exciting,” said Coach Nemec.
Sarah Wolstoncroft says, “It’s a good chance to show our skills and all the hardwork we put in practice.”
They have been working on their routines since August. Coaches: Hubber, Mefferd, and Nemec sometimes practice with the girls. Their routines are 2 min. and 30 sec. long and include: dance, cheer, tumbling, and stunting.
“All our practices pays off when we win first place,” said freshman Katie Patterson.
