After the Giants victory in Super Bowl XLVI, John Kivney, a social studies teacher, came to work with a huge smile on his face.
“It made coming to work enjoyable,” said Mr. Kivney. “I was able to rub it in the noses of Patriots’ fans.”
Just like Mr. Kivney, many Murrowites were extremely happy about the team’s thrilling 21-17 come-from-behind victory over the New England Patriots in Indianapolis. In fact there was a lot of Giants’ pride on display in the school as some students wore hats and team jerseys – Eli Manning’s #10 was a favorite for most.
"It was amazing,” said Yestak Haq, a senior. “This was my first year following football and it was a good experience to watch it with friends and family.”
Danny Ullo, a social studies teacher, said he was glad that the Giants beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl for the second time in five years.
“They’re a good team,” said Mr. Ullo. “But hey, they lost. When it’s all said and done, they’re the competition.”
With the parade that was scheduled in downtown Manhattan at midday, most Murrowites decided to stay in school and skip the parade. According to the attendance office, there were 721 students absent today, which was 10 less than yesterday.
“I was supposed to go to the parade, but I had school,” said Daisy Flores, freshman. “My parents said they would let me go but education comes first.”
Senior Sanjay Chandra said that there was no way he was going to attend the parade.
“I’ve always been a Patriots’ fan,” said Chandra. “My family is from New England, I was very upset but it’s done. I have to wait until next year.”
