Kings of Leon, initially embraced as “The Southern Strokes” for their reinvention of Dixie-styled rock and roll, will be holding a concert in Birmingham Oct. 15 at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center arena. The tickets range from $92- $350.
They have sold out arenas and stadiums around the world. This band is comprised of three brothers- Anthony “Caleb” Followill (guitar), Ivan “Nathan” Followill (drums), Michael “Jared” Followill (bass), as well as their first cousin Cameron “Mathew” Followill (guitar).
Kings of Leon has grown more and more popular since 2000. In the same year, they transformed themselves into a rock band in Nashville, Tenn.. The band’s website says that they spent the majority of their youth touring around southern United States with their father, Ivan “Leon” Followill. Kings of Leon went platinum in the U.S. with their fourth studio album, “Only by the Night”. Their website also states that approximately 133,155 digital copies have been sold. Some of their most popular songs are “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody”. Their music seems to be well known by most teenagers.
Whitney Head, a sophomore, said that Kings of Leon’s music is very upbeat and
enjoyable to sing along to. “Every song is different, never repetitive like most bands,” says Head.
Savannah Dykes, sophomore, will be attending their concert in October. She says that she has very high expectations for their performance because they never fail to wow the crowd.
Both Whitney and Savannah have listened to Kings of Leon for five to six months, and when asked what their favorite song by this band is, they agreed “Use Somebody” was the best. They also agreed that Kings of Leon will be a fantastic concert; everyone should attend. For more information go to www.kingsofleon.com.
