Ken Kesey is the author of The One Who Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. It was first published in the United States of America by Viking Penguin Inc in 1962. This is a fictional novel that will keep your giggle box upside down! It’s a don’t-put-down-novel that keeps you glued! Be prepared.
The book takes place in a mental ward. The main characters are a large Indian named Chief Bromden, a large red-headed man named Randle Patrick McMurphy and the head nurse Ms. Ratched. The mental ward is like any other mental ward expect for the big, bad, mean nurse Ms. Ratched. She believes she is in control of this mental ward, but once McMurphy arrives she soon realizes that her control is gone. McMurphy likes to cause trouble in this novel. He feels that the people in the mental ward are not treated well. McMurphy feels that the doctors and nurse treat the patients badly because they think the patients are so crazy and mentally ill no one will notice; however, that is not the case. He believes that even though you are crazy does not mean you don’t have feelings. In the novel McMurphy tries really hard to change the way people are treated. He is successful, but pays a hard price. McMurphy and his friends have many adventures together. The adventures that they have will not only change their lives forever, but it changes how they view and feel things.
This novel is among one of my favorite books. There are a lot of funny parts in the book that I really enjoyed. You have to remember though this novel is not all funny. It does have some sad parts that you need to be prepared for; however, I never wanted to put this book down. This novel is an easy read and I believe anyone could read it. I give this novel a 4 out of 5 star rating. I would also recommend this book to anyone who loves humor.
