The Devil's Advocate has chosen Mrs. Amanda McLaren for the month of October teacher spotlight.
McLaren has always wanted to be a teacher. This is her third year teaching. She loves teaching and wouldn't have it any other way. Her inspiration to teach is because of her teacher in high school. "I had a good teacher," says McLaren.
Moody High School is the only school she has ever taught at. She is from Ashville and graduated from Ashville High School. Post-high school, she graduated from Jefferson State Community College with a degree in secondary education math. She is married and has no children. McLaren teaches the subjects Geometry and Algebra 2. She enjoys teaching Geometry because it is a more hands-on class. They do more projects, instead of just writing equations all the time.
Her class might be doing a project that involves being outside. Her hope is to go to the football field so her classes can use trigonometry ratios and heights of different objects. She would really like for them to do the project on the football field, but if they can't do that, they will just have to do it somewhere else oustide.
Overall, McLaren loves what she does, as a teacher. She enjoys all of her students, and wouldn't teach anything other than what she teaches now.
