South Asia was stuck by a devastating earthquake on Oct. 8. Pakistan was severely hit by this quake and it affected surrounding areas in India. With a magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter scale, this is the most destructive earthquake to hit the region in over a century. The death toll in Pakistan has risen to over 38,000 people and the toll in India is at 1,300. The injured toll in Pakistan has shot up to 62,000. Search efforts for survivors were short-lived as it became apparent that many towns were completely destroyed with no signs of life. Relief efforts are underway to aid the survivors yet progress has been impeded due to rough terrain, expansive areas to cover and cold weather.
