JC Alvarado

Jose “JC” Alvarado is a four year marching band member, former clarinet section leader, 1st chair in honor band,  two year drum major, and an active member of AVID. Music “runs through his veins”, and he’s been dedicated to the mighty mission eagle band since 2008. JC has received a superior rating in a class one solo, and been named Best marcher his freshman and sophomore year. For JC, the happiest experience while at MHS was the rush he got after every Pigskin performance. His love for music is very strong.

Next fall, he hopes to attend Texas A&M to major in music, and hopes to come back to the valley and become a band director at MHS. He wants the students to “experience a love of music” and how it makes a difference in a person’s life. Being the first in his family to go to college, he thanks his mother for that extra push that helped him stay on the right path.

Gabriela Martinez

Volleyball, basketball, softball and track are just some of the sport her skills have shined.  She received 1st all District for volleyball and MVP for volleyball as well. She was also chosen to participate in the All Star Volleyball Game.

Gariela has received several awards that include Commended Performance on TAKS, Leadership Awards, and Student of the Month for two different organizations which include, Mission High School’s Athletic Department, and for the Junior Service League of Mission. She is ranked 21 in her senior class and is in the top 10%. She has been a part of HOSA and is currently in the Pharmacy Technician Club, were she is the Vice-President.

She has done volunteer work that includes helping at the Boys & Girls Club as an assistant coach for 6-8 year old volleyball team, helping her coach in the concession stand, and also for the past two years she has volunteered with the United Blood Services donations at MHS.

She is determined to become a doctor. Making her favorite teacher Dr. Juarez; a teacher who knows a lot and cares for his students’ needs. She plans to major in Biomedical Sciences and she will do this at Texas A&M Corpus Christi because she believes it has a good degree program.

Her advice to underclassmen is to try their best in everything they do because the truth is they will only live once, and to keep their head up high no matter what. She knows she will miss many things about high school, she will miss her friends, teachers, but more than anything the great experiences and memories she had at MHS.

Jose Villalobos

Jose Villalobos is ranked number three in his class of 342 seniors. After scoring a 30 on the ACT, Jose got accepted to UT Austin where he will study to be an engineer. Jose didn’t know what career he wanted to pursue until he researched jobs that included math, since that’s his strongest subject, it was only fitting to be an engineer.

“Mechanical and electrical engineering sounds interesting. They also pay well,” Villaloblos said.

He is proud of how far he has come and he thanks his parents for his success. Jose says that his mother would always push him about his grades and would make him feel important. He looks up to his father also because he has tried his hardest to give him a good life. Jose has always wanted to go to college for a good education and hopes to have a better chance of getting a high paying job. His personal goal is to have a good long life so he can financially help his parents in the future.

“They worked hard for me, it only makes sense that I work hard for them,” Villalobos said.

Cassandra Canizalez

The title of  Valedictorian falls short in describing Cassandra Canizalez. She is an intelligent, caring, loud, and outgoing person, who always has a friendly ‘hello’ to give to her peers. Always respectful, but not afraid to speak her mind, Cassandra has made her journey to become valedictorian something to admire.

One thing is for sure, Cassandra has been able to manage her time wisely to be involved in different clubs and sports throughout her four years of high school; not letting her academics be affected by anything. She has been involved in clubs such as Choir, BPA, Environmental Club, and NHS. She has also done volunteer work that involves the trash bash, carwash, maintaining the school garden, and working at the library. Not only is she active in academics, but also in sports were she was in basketball for four years, two of which were on varsity. Also, she participated in cross-country her junior and senior year.

She will be attending Texas A&M College Station where she will pursue a career in engineering.

She has admired Biology teacher Mrs. Prukup, because she is strong, helpful to students, and very caring. Her advice to underclassmen is too see the bright side of things instead of dwelling on the negative and only then can you keep on moving.

“I was not aiming to be valedictorian I was just doing my best. I do not see it as special just as doing what I needed to do,”Cassandra said.

Chris Rosalez

“Do good in your classes, apply for scholarships as soon as you can, and give it your all in school; show the world your true potential, and just have fun,” this is what Jose Christian Rosalez believes everyone should do during their high school years.

“Chris” as he is known to friends and teachers is a well rounded, outgoing, creative person who can always be seen working on his next piece of art or rehearsing for the school play.

Chris has been involved in MHS band for four years, Mariachi, Environmental Club, Art Club, Guitar Club, One Act Play, and U.I.L. He has received two division fours for VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event) which is the highest ranking that can be obtained, and also first place in Prose in U.I.L. He has done volunteer work that involves the trash bash, and volunteering at Bentsen State Park.

“What I will miss the most about high school will be my friends, teachers the art room, the theatre stage, and doing arials in the hallways,” Chris said.

Veronica Colunga

Although still undecided on the university she will be attending next fall, MHS’s 2011 Homecoming Queen, four-year cheerleader, and NHS and DECA member, Veronica “Ronnie” Colunga, is very determined.  Next year, she plans to major in Biology at either UTPA or Texas A&M at College Station so that she will one day become a Veterinarian.

Through hard work and self discipline, Ronnie has been able to maintain a high ranking throughout high school and will graduate in the number 12 spot of this year’s graduating class.

“I plan on receiving more scholarships, passing my classes with nothing below a B and passing the VCAAT test,” said Ronnie.

Eric Mora

Everybody says high school is the best four years of your life and Eric Mora did make it his best four years.

Strong, funny, outgoing and friendly those are the few words that describe Eric Mora. Eric has overcame obstacles in his life but that didn’t stop him from having a great high school experience.

Eric was involved in FFA all his four years, and became baseball manager. In FFA Eric placed 3rd in the Rio Grande Livestock Show.

“I admire my mom for being here for me throughout my entire life. After high school I plan on going to college and getting a degree in computer science, and move to the UK and see the way they live over there and how it’s different from here.”

Ruben Alvarado

For Ruben Alvarado, busy is an understatement. Apart from being involved in track, church, cheer team, swimming, diving, and National Honor Society, he is graduating in the top 5% of the 2012 class. Ruben started being involved in school as soon as he stepped on the campus. He has accomplished many things throughout these four years, such as Regional State and District Diving Champ and 1st place diving team for All Valley.

Ruben has always wanted to make his parents proud and he feels as if he has accomplished that by being top in his class. He says that his parents encourage him the most and they make him feel as if anything is possible. His family tries their hardest to make his life the best and he wants to repay them by going to college and excelling.

He wants to be able to support a future family as well as to take care of his parents. He will do so by going to UTPA and then transferring to Texas State to study physical therapy and tryout for their cheer team.

“Walking under those Friday night lights that last time will always be etched in my memory. I’m going to miss MHS.”

Bianca Saenz

“Opportunities are always available to you, but sometimes they look like hardwork and the ones that succeed,  are the ones that are able to see past the hardwork and seize the opportunity,” Bianca Saenz said.

Bianca is one of the many inspirational students at MHS. From being in National Honor Society to becoming Student Council Vice President, Bianca is an exemplary student. Bianca has been in many activities in high school, such as: Band, Newspaper, Yearbook, MedEd program, regional qualifier for U.I.L Spelling , and major of the Highflyers. Even with all of that on her plate, Bianca manages to maintain her good grades, which makes her the Salutatorian of her class.

Bianca’s plans on going into the medical field and will attend the University of Texas Pan American. Bianca got into a program called EMSAP Early Medical School Acceptance program.

“I admire my sister Sonya because she helped me and told me how to work through things and I learned so much from her. I also admire my parents because they pushed me to apply for scholarships and they are both very successful.”

When asked what she hopes to leave behind at MHS, she said, “to be inspirational to others.”

Sergio Villegas

Sergio brings a uniqueness to MHS. He is known as being a different, charismatic, friendly and a funny guy.

He is rankedtop five in his class  Sergio still manages to be in NHS, Student Council President, Freshman Class VP, basketball, tennis, and was also in baseball for a season. With all of his busy activities in high school he still manages to do over 100 community hours for NHS.

After high school Sergio plans on attending Lindenwood University with the scholarship he received. He plans on majoring in Communications.

Sergio admires his father because he is one the hardest working people he knows.

“I’ve made plenty of memories during high school and I will never forget them. It surely has made its impact on me and I hope to do great in Missouri and make MHS proud. I will never regret being a Mission Eagle. I mean, my Mama was an Eagle. GO EAGLES!”

Dianey Veliz

With four years as an MHS cheerleader, one year as the assistant-head cheerleader, four years as a theatre arts member, with one year as the theatre arts president, three years as a student council member, two years as an MHS track team member, and one year as the MHS UIL team vice president, Dianey Veliz has definitely had her hands full since her high school career began. This future Aggie, through hard work and determination, has managed to do all of this while maintaining a top 10% ranking in the graduating class of 2012.

“ I plan to major in Communications and be  successful in  everything I do,” Dianey said.
