The Jog-A-Thon is an annual event that SCDS
hosts every year. Last year it was during the spring and this year it
was at the beginning of the year, on September 26th, 2008.
Christina Kaufman was in charge of the Jog-A-Thon this year. She
removed the field day portion from the program because of all the
activities going on during the week, such as Homecoming.
The refreshments are a popular feature of the Jog-A-Thon. “The
Jamba Juice is my all-time favorite because it’s refreshing after we
run and I like it, too!” said seventh grader Hannah Takekawa.
This year the planner has changed how students can earn prizes;
instead of being based on the amount of money each student raises, it’s
based on the number of pledges per lap. “Instead of giving out water
bottles for sponsoring I would give out gift certificates to Borders or
Starbucks,” suggested Hannah.
Katie Vrame, a sixth grade student, said that she enjoyed this
year’s Jog-A-Thon and the Jamba Juice. She also misses the fun field
day but is okay with the Homecoming rally. “ I think to make the
Jog-A-Thon more fun the parents who are working there should squirt us
with squirt guns or throw streamers at us!” she said.
While jogging this year, sixth and seventh grade English teacher
Ms. Grieve was wearing an old Jog-A-Thon t-shirt from when she was in
seventh grade at SCDS. She said that she still remembers the jog
clearly. “ It was on the same field as it was this year. The only
difference was that it seemed bigger than it does to me now,” she said.
