There are many elective choices at Country Day. All electives are educational in different ways, such as Academic Computers, which allows you to learn about Microsoft programs and how to use them. The Garden and Outdoor Ed electives allow you to be outside, as does Ceramics. There are five different art classes: Drawing, Studio Art, Ceramics, and Digital Photography. There are five performing arts. They are Band, Orchestra, Drama, Digital Music, and Puppetry.
Darby Bosco was in Book Club and liked it because she was able to just read and enjoy a good book. Reading a book gives you some down time to just relax. Darby says that Ms. LaMay brings in good treats to eat during elective. Darby is also in Orchestra and plays the violin. She would like to take an art elective because she likes art.
Connor Martin was in Student Engineering and Science-Arts Workshop (SESAW) and was building a solar powered car, recycled furniture, and making Bigger and Better Bubbles that don’t pop when you touch them. He thinks that this elective is a great learning experience and is fun.
Michael Fat, a sixth grader, says that in Academic Computers, students type different projects about subjects they get to pick. He says that it allows him to know more about computers. In Academic Computers students learn how to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. He was also in Ceramics. The class recently finished making Victorian houses. Everything that they make is made out of clay. He hopes to get Martial Arts for his next elective because it seems fun and he could hit Mr. Bolman.
Jenner Chapman was in Drawing and Newspaper first semester. In Drawing he drew a picture of people from a TV show called LOST. In Newspaper he worked on an article about YouTube. He would like to be in Martial Arts so that he can learn Kung Fu. Jenner likes his teachers and says, “Mr. Cunningham’s orange pants are awesome.”
Overall, there are many different fun and educational electives to choose from. Some people prefer the outdoors, some like art, and some like music. Some just like to build things. People have very different interests, so the school provides electives that appeal to different kinds of students.
