Mood rings have always been a popular novelty. When a person slips one on, the color of the stone represents the emotion the person is apparently feeling. This emotion is determined from using the chart that dictates which color represents which mood. Now this may not be the most accurate way to reveal emotions, but is there a real connection between moods and colors? Colors are very symbolic and when one wears a certain color, their feelings can be read like a book.
Colors are grouped in different ways. For instance, colors are sometimes categorized as warm, cool, or neutral. The warm colors include yellow and orange. Green and blue are cool colors. Some basic neutrals are beige and white.
Each color is associated with an emotion. For instance, blue is a relaxing color, and is a common color for bedrooms. Green is a trendy design color, as it is a connection to nature. Associated with royalty, purple has another interesting meaning. Because purple is uncommon in nature, it can be viewed as a fake color. Red is an attention-getting color, and also a color of romance. Yellow is a happy, cheerful color. A dependable color, brown is connected to earth, ever present in nature. Orange is a bright and energetic color, full of warmth and enthusiasm. Black is a powerful color, but is also associated with submission. As a color of innocence, white is also a color of freshness. There is so much within a color: a story, an emotion…
According to the fashion website Million Looks, a few trends can be connected to emotions. Many of the fashion trends for fall/winter 2011-2012 convey an emotion. Relaxing and calming, soft colors are going to start appearing on the catwalk. To quote the color trends list, "mood-improving bright details" are perfect for brightening an outfit. For instance, a few cheery colors are orange and yellow. Also, burgundy is very stylish, symbolizing riches, fortune, and the possible power that one could possess. A new and fashionable color is midnight blue. Dark blue is an earnest color, a sign of knowledge and good character.
Whether the colors are trends that are "in" one year and "out" the next or simply a favorite color, they can reflect individual emotions and style. There really is a connection between colors and moods.
