Ever wonder what co-op students do? We don't just get out of school early to do whatever we want. When we leave early, some of us go straight to work while others, including myself, go home and do some school work until we go to our job.
To meet requirements, you only have to work 15 hours a week. I myself work 25 to 30 hours a week, which is hard to fit in with a full school schedule. If I work that many hours why, shouldn't I get school credits for it? Well, in co-op you receive 15 credits.
There are many different types of kids in the program, and we all have interesting jobs. Sadly, some kids drop out of school just to go to work, but with this program you can go to school, go to work, make money, and graduate all at the same time.
If you don't have a job right when the school year starts, Mr. Pierce will help you find a good, fun job. Since Mr. Pierce has many connections with companies that can hook you up with a job.
Our class isn't just opening a book and taking boring notes. We converse about our jobs and learn from each other's experiences. We also have an opportunity to go run the snack stand and the school store during class period.
Additionally, we choose fundraisers to raise money, when we have to do is go out and sell as much of the product as we can. These funds help pay for prom, senior trip, homecoming, or even buy a cool hoodie from the school store!
