This year’s Marshmallow Roast was a fight to the finish, beginning with the Athletic Association’s lighting of the bonfire. The freshman class kicked off the night’s skits with “The Wizard of Vis,” where Dorothy made her journey through the school, trying to find The Wizard of Vis—Mr. Kerns—and her way back to the Commons. The juniors’ “Broadway” skit was a mix of different famous Broadway plays, such as "Mamma Mia!", "The Lion King" and "Annie." The next performance was the sophomore class’ “GV TV,” which incorporated different game shows such as "Wheel of Fortune," "Hollywood Squares" and "Deal Or No Deal." Finally the seniors performed their clever “Visitation Nation,” where they turned 400 years of history into the four years at Visitation.

Following the Marshmallow Roast tradition, the seniors then sang their class song, R. Kelly’s “World’s Greatest,” while the new teachers decided on the winning skit. The entire congregation held their breath as Mr. Kerns announced, “…and the winner of Marshmallow Roast 2009 is…the junior class!” The entire field was filled with ecstatic celebration from the juniors. Although the seniors were shocked, they handled their loss with maturity, proving to the whole Visitation community that they truly are the World’s Greatest, through thick and thin.
