ALWAYS THERE -- Four I.H.S seniors sit with their favorite teacher Mrs. Cynthia Welch. The English teacher, who is famous for her nurturing spirit and saucy sense of humor, is one of several teachers who will be remembered by the Class of 2008 (Photo by Val Maher).

The Class of 2008 is wrapping up their last year at Ipswich High School and looking forward to their future plans. Even though senior year focuses on the college process, seniors still have gathered some nice I.H.S. memories.

It was just four years ago when the Class of 2008 was just entering high school. Even though it seemed so long ago, a few seniors remember those awkward days. Inspite of getting tormented through the hallways by the upperclassmen, they still have some nice moments as a class. For just being freshmen the Class of 2008 pulled together and won first place for the wall competition during Spirit Week. However, the class ultimately placed last overall during Spirit Week. Still, they showed that the upperclassmen had tough competition.

During this year, the Ipswich Varsity Basketball team did amazing and made it to the TD Banknorth Garden where they took the title of champions. Rachel Miller states, “I thought it was amazing when we got to go the Garden to see our team win.” Most seniors would have to say that the win was a good way to start off their four years.

Seniors recall the MCAS and PSAT seemed to make sophomore year drag on forever. Most seniors say that sophomore year was dull, but there were some moments that lit up their year. With PSAT coming up the sophomores were preparing themselves for a busy junior year.

During the sophomore year Spirit Week, the Class of 2008 did the unthinkable by beating the junior class for second place. “I was pretty proud when we defeated the juniors that year,” said senior Gage Arsenault.

Most high school students will agree that the hardest year was the junior year. This was the time to buckle down and start studying their butts off for the SATS. When asked what their favorite moment of junior year was, most seniors would agree just getting done with the SATS ranked tops.

Even though the college process had only just begun, the Class of 2008 worked very hard to maintain their good grades during the junior year. Mark Kozazcki shared the philosophy that caried him through that experience: “Try your hardest junior year. It will pay off.”

As the juniot year came to an end, the Class of 2008 began preparing themselves for their college visits.

In October of 2007, I.H.S. seniors enjoyed their last Spirit Week together. The seniors, naturally, dominated the underclassmen. Senior Laura Greene says, “My favorite Spirit Weel moment this year was when Sarah (Cornacchio) played the Drop Kick Murphy’s.”

Seniors have also enjoyed the annual senior fashion show and cotillion. This Friday, seniors will trek to the Crane estate attend their last prom at Ipswich High School. Most seniors have said that their favorite moment is that they had gotten the chance to bond more with their class.

enior year has been very stressful, students admit, as they chase their dream of going t and paying for college. Most seniors would have to say that their favorite senior moment was getting that acceptance letter in the mail from their college.

Several I.H.S. teachers have made a great impression on the Class of 2008, but many seniors agree that their favorite teacher has been Mrs. Cythia Welch. The English teacher has been a helpful mentor to many seniors and has given them the opportunity to work on the I.H.S. yearbook. Her room is always open for students to come in and chat. Welch is a very understanding person and always gives her best advice to her students.

What words of wisdom might the Class of 2008 deliver to underclassmen?

“Hard work pays off and stereotypes are over rated,” advises Rachel Miller, who will attend Suffolk University this fall. It’s important for freshmen to try your hardest during the next three years and make sure that they stay on top of their work.

Most seniors would have to say don’t fall into the wrong crowed and make the right decisions.

“Don’t do things that make you unhappy,” Joe Guvendiren recommends. "It’s important to work hard and make yourself happy."

So what will life after high school hold for the I.H.S. Class of 2008? Most of the seniors are planning to pack up their stuff and move out to dorms across the country. This year the Class of 2008 has worked really hard to get accepted to the colleges of their choice. Most seniors are happy with their decision.

Kayla Jernagen looks forward to her future.

“I’m glad I got into UMass Amherst, and I am excited to attend there in the fall,” Jernagen said.

Bob Papa plans to pursue mechanical training. “I plan to own my own car shop,” Papa told The Tiger Transcript.

The Class of 2008 will gather for the last time in the lower gymnasium on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 2 p.m. Valedictorian Andrea Stewart will give her speech before moving on to Tufts University to study medicine. Salutatorian Jess Cote will also address the crowd.

The Tiger Transcript wishes the best of luck to all of the graduates.
