As one of the most storied franchises in the NHL, the fans are expecting more out of them. The Boston Bruins have the second most Stanley Cup wins by an American based team but they haven’t seen much success in the playoffs in past years. Their last Stanley Cup win was in the 71-72 season when they beat the New York Rangers in six games. Yes, they have made a dramatic improvement since the beginning of the century but the fans want more than improvement, they want result in the playoffs. They have gone from not making the playoffs in the 2000-2001 season to a second place finish in the 08-09 regular season. But, they failed to produce in the playoffs. Fans like Mark Gallant are happy about the regular season success but want results in the playoffs.

When I asked what he thought about the team Mark said “I enjoy seeing their success in the regular season and I think they will have more success this year but I am sick of them just losing in the playoffs. I want a Stanley cup.”

That’s what everyone in the Bruins' fan base wants. Last year, during game seven against the Carolina Hurricanes the Bruins took the game into overtime. With such high expectations for the team along with their aspiration for a championship, the fans let their emotions out. For virtually the whole overtime period the fans chanted “We want it”.  Unfortunately they lost the game, which ended their season. This year both the fans and players want it more then ever.

Ten games into the season this year the Bruins find themselves in the middle of the standings with an opportunity to improve. Out of the five teams in the division, Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadians, Buffalo Sabres, and the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Bruins are ranked in forth place but have a chance to make a move. They are 5-4-1 with 11 points and are in a great position to jump a few spots. The three teams ahead of them are the Canadians and Senators with 12 points each, and the Sabres with 13 points. The Bruins have been known to get off to a slow start in past years and it seems like the same is happening this year. Like in years past, they have the talent to put together a few wins and by the end of the season they have a strong chance of becoming a Stanley Cup contender once again.
