IPSWICH- The boys of spring are back and are as excited as ever.  They are coming back with a vengeance and everyone in the Cape Ann league needs to be warned.  Ipswich Baseball is looking to do something it hasn’t done in three seasons, make the tournament.

“The last time we made the tournament I was a freshman,” said senior Pat Curran.  He went on to say  “The other captain (Louis Galanis) and I got called up to practice with that team once they made the tournament, but we weren’t truly on the team.”

The Tigers return with a good core group that has been playing baseball the majority of the off season and will do anything to get a taste of the postseason.

Junior Alex Amoroso said, “We were close last year to making the tournament.  Had a few bounces gone our way in key games, we probably would have made it.  It was heartbreaking.”

The boys have been faced with controversy, which in recent years is par for Ipswich male athletic teams.  The decision was announced on February 12th that the Stelline Twins, known on the team as “The Jo Bros” would not be returning for their junior seasons.

Catcher Henry Sacco had this to say when asked about the Stellines.  “The Stellines were solid, tough baseball players who were fundamentally sound.  By the end of the year Jeremy was making unbelievable plays for us.  Luckily for this year’s team, we have hard-working kids who are ready to step up and do their jobs to the best of their ability.”

The team’s returning nucleus contains seniors Curran, Galanis, pitcher Jon Fierro, local dirt-dog Connor Whooley, lightning fast outfielder Dan O’Flynn, and smooth as silk catcher Dan Carey.  Also, be on the lookout for returning juniors Amoroso and Sacco.  There are a few newcomers who are looking to etch their names into Ipswich Baseball lore such as juniors Kyle Barber and Josh Guertin, and sophomore sensation pitcher Sean Whooley.  The team has a lot to look forward to as the tournament should be in reach.
