Janis Acosta and Tiffany Tippie -

It’s almost the end of the third nine weeks, and it is a very important time for many students and staff, especially for all the Senior Cosmetology students.
On March 8th, most of the seniors who are enrolled in the Cosmetology program traveled to Columbus, Ohio to take their state boards. A lot of the students were very nervous, while others just didn’t seem to care.
When asked if she was nervous prior to taking the test, Janis Acosta said, “Heck yeah! If I fail I have to drive another three hours, and pay another $21.00. I don’t want it to come, but I can’t wait for the day it’s over. I also hope I make it, since I am leaving the morning of the test.”
At the testing site, the students were required to take a practical and written exam. The written exam is a computer aided test of one hundred questions, and you have 75 minutes to complete it.
The practical portion is the hands on part. In this segment of the test, you are required to demonstrate various types of procedures, including sanitation. The procedures that the students are required to complete are a uniform layered haircut that is between 6-4 inches, thermal curling, color retouch, chemical relaxer, virgin lightener, shampooing, perm wrap, and rollers and pin curl placement. For each section you are given a limited amount of time to complete the scheduled task, from start to finish, which would include the draping, and cleaning up.
There were approximately 25 Senior Cosmetology students who traveled to Columbus for the exam. All of the students who went passed the practical portion, while only a few failed the written exam.
For many of us, this is just one step closer to graduation.
Congratulations to all the senior “Cos Chicks” on a job well done. Your efforts are tremendous, and you should all be proud of yourselves.
