Map of the Baptist churches that were set on fire in Alabama -
Advertising
A college prank went out of control in Alabama. What started out as small fires in Baptist churches in Bibb County just south of Birmingham, Alabama resulted in the destruction of nine Baptist churches all over the state. The string of fires occurred last month, but federal agents have finally brought the three pranksters to justice. The three people involved were all college students. Two of them 19-year old Benjamin Mosley and 19-year old Russel Debusk attend Birmingham Southern College, and the third 20-year old Mathew Cloyd from the University of Alabama. When caught, the three admitted that the first five fires on Febuary 2nd in Bibb County were set as a joke, and to try to throw investigators off their trail they started four more fires all over the state. Investigators found tire tracks at the scene of six of the nine arsines. The tire tracks were then traced to Mr. Cloyds’s vehicle. After being arrested Mr. Cloyd admitted that Mr. Debusk and Mosley were responsible for the fires. The day before the arrests Cloyd’s parents admitted that they knew that their son was responsible. Of the nine fires of churches set, five were completely destroyed, and four were severely damaged. They are also responsible for spreading fear and terror all across the state of Alabama. All three students either have or are enrolled at Birmingham Southern, a Methodist-affiliated liberal arts college.
