Sports extend past the regular season dates. There’s always work to be done outside team practices. Softball at Crest Ridge is a sport that puts a heavy emphasis on preseason work outs. The work outs have started as early as November in the past. This year preseason started the second week of January. Preseason includes workouts like running and core, to batting practice, as well as fielding practice.

The preseason schedule this year is Tuesday afternoons, Wednesday mornings, and Thursday morning every week. The morning sessions start at 7:15 and end at 7:45. The afternoon sessions start at 3:30 and end at 4:30. Each week a day is set aside for a work out. The workout usually includes running and some sort of core exercise. Another day is set aside for throwing and fielding practice. In the gym it makes it difficult to practice fielding, because it is a small space and the floor creates a hard bounce on the ball that can be hard to read, but the warmer weather permits the team to be on the field some days in the preseason. The last day is set aside for hitting drills. The team builds up to hitting live off of a pitching machine, but starts with less intense drills that focus mainly on fundamentals.

Other preseason activities for the softball team include the spaghetti dinner they host at a basketball game each year, and the pizza sales they use as a fundraiser every year
