Sutherland's sweet slams

Over these past few weeks staff and students have been collecting money and votes to put certain teachers in a sumo suit. If you gave money your received a vote, then you could decide who you wanted to go in the ring. The Saul Haas Fund was the chosen charity for this event. The money helps out students who can't afford things like a lab fee or book costs. The charity doubled the money amount that the school raised, which ended up being a total of 771,000 dollars. The staff member who won the most votes and earned the school the most money was Mr. Davis the athletics director. Unfortunately as much as everyone wanted to see him as a sumo wrestler he was unable to attend the assembly and got stuck in a meeting in Seattle.

When the time came the eight staff members who were elected to fight were; Johnson against Shirley, Page against Tubbs, Sutherland against JPaul, and Thompson against Agnew. Mr. Johnson was victorious in his match against Mrs. Shirley, she couldn't touch him. "It was an honor to be in the ring with her", said Mr. Johnson. The next winner was Mrs. Page, She took down Tubbs with her power hits and intense body slams. When Sutherland stepped in the ring JPaul had no chance. He pulled every move he had on her, police trained or not. One move included the famous dive of the side of the ring and body slam the opponent. In an interview with Officer Sutherland he said, "JPaul has disrespected me for the last time, my only regret is that the crowd couldn't hear the noises she made when I landed on her". If Sutherland could fight a staff member of his choice it would be Mr. Duty because, "he has it coming". Finally Thompson was too quick for Agnew, he kept knocking her on her back but when she started to charge at him, he thought quick and dropped to his knees causing her to tumble over him.  All in all everyone was pleased with the results of the wrestling matches no matter who won.

Senior Kaylee Thompson said her favorite fight was between Johnson and Shirley. "He said to our class he wasn't going to beat her up and he did". "If I could fight a staff member in the sumo suit I would choose Davis because I know his son and that would be funny", said sophomore Kai. After asking a few students which two teachers they would want to see wrestle each other in the ring, most of the people said Feist Vs Davis. Feist was a ultimate fighter but Davis is a big man, it would be an epic battle. When Mr. Johnson was asked who he would choose to fight in the ring he said, "Thompson because he left the portable posse and moved his classroom into the building".

Everyone has different opinions about the sumo wrestling and who should have fought who. However in the end the sumos brought the school together, for a few minutes of pure excitement and joy.
