Hippity Hoppity Horse Races in Tahoma High School Embed This Article

A jockey getting ready to bounce their way to victory.

Four jockeys mount their steeds. Tensions are high and the crowd is screaming with spirit and the announcer’s voice preparing them for the race ahead. You see Zorro, Ron Weasly, a Leprechaun and Clint Eastwood anticipating their bounce to victory. Finally they were off, and the winner stumbled over the finish line, and then the next heat was ready to start the process again.

No, Zorro and Clint Eastwood were not at Tahoma High School. There were, however, students representing their advisory class portraying these icons. The Hippity Hoppity Horse Races are, basically, exactly what the name suggests. Jockeys start out hopping along a racetrack until one makes it. Remember those big bouncy balls with the handle on them from your childhood? That’s basically what it is, but shaped like a horse with no handle. The point was not necessarily to have a good time, (which was had anyway), but to promote the One School theme. One School is the effort, made by students and teachers, to bond and bring the school together.  When there is a school assembly how many times do you see a teacher bouncing along on a bouncing horse? That is exactly the kind of activity that One School is promoting this year.

Tahoma had an event of its own where the students and some staff fought to win the heat they competed in. Out of the many competitors, Jacob Drum had a time of 3.66 seconds in his first race, where he beat his contenders with a leap for victory at the end. He claimed the victory of the hippity Hoppity master at the end of the 2nd race. The race was so quick that the times were not recorded. The top four fastest times from all the rounds moved to the final race where the racers did their best but Jacob was the victorious winner. Everyone who joined in on the races tried their best and valiant efforts were given to beat the competition but in the long time everyone had fun during the race and in the long run, that’s what really matters, and that’s the spirit of One School.
