The Manhattan block that is, On October 22, 2009, Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. or more famously known as Lil Wayne plead guilty in New York. He is expected to receive a year sentence for criminal possession of a weapon in the second-degree, a felony. He will remain free on a $30,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in State Supreme Court again in December for a parole update and his sentence is expected to begin in February 2010 on Rikers Island.
The charge stemmed from a July 2007 incident in New York City after authorities found a loaded .40 Caliber pistol in a Louis Vuitton bag that he tossed aside when police investigators approached his tour bus. They also found drugs including: 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine, 41 grams of ecstasy, and the drug paraphernalia. He is getting off easy compared to the 3 ½-5 year sentence he should have received.
Many think that jail will have a good impact on his music career and others including Brooklynn Hamilton believe “He will be looked at differently, but not necessarily in a bad way. His publicity will definitely increase.” His record executives Baby and Slim have been with him for more than 15 years and continue to stand by. “The Cash Money family will continue to support our artist and friend in his current court case. We have worked with Wayne since he was a teenager and we have seen him grow into one of the world’s most successful Hip-hop artists, with a work ethic that is second to none. Wayne has our love and commitment during this difficult time. We always have and always will stand behind him.”
