November 20th, 2009  and six new teachers will be added to the wall of distinction at Tahoma High School for completing and passing the curriculum to receive their National Board of Professional Teaching Standards certification.
During this year long cumulative project, teachers must meet a rigorous set of standards to receive this distinction. During the eight month waiting period, teachers stress in anticipation to learn the results.
Teachers must complete four portfolio assignments and test in six areas of focus in a program that may take up to three years to complete.
Mr. Duty principal at Tahoma High School communicated his thoughts on the achievements: “I believe that it is a testament to all teachers. It shows how much we support our education at Tahoma.”
When asked what it says about our teachers he responded, “It distinguishes the top teachers for the United States, and Washington State identifies [them] as the 'elite of the elite’ ".
He also cites the strong support program that helps teachers achieve this goal as a contributor to the high percentage of nationally certified teachers here. “When most teachers have none or maybe one board certified teacher, and we have eighteen, it shows a commitment to learning.”

We are proud of our six teachers this year that will be added to the other twelve already honored at Tahoma High School.

Teachers to be congratulated are:

Jennifer Gosnell, Art

Darren Collins, Science

Heidi Young, Counseling

Ken Loomis, Science

Lara Lindersmith, Language Arts

Lindsey Hatch, Social Studies

Thank you so very much for your recognition and kind words. Now we are a group of 18! Wow! Not to mention your own Journalistic Teacher...Allison Agnew - NBCT. It is a true honor to be along side her on the wall.
