When I go around interviewing the students of Tahoma High School I ask them about the music they listen to. I mainly got the stuff that is played on the big radio stations which is fine, but I want people to expand their musical tastes to more of the less popular artist of any genre. Not everyone has the same taste in music and a lot of people don’t know a whole lot of stuff besides what is "popular" and what is being played on the radio.
Album reviews: Arcade Fire-The Suburbs
When I first heard Arcade Fires 2004 album Funeral I was absolutely amazed. It was at the time one of the most emotional albums that I had ever heard. It was first introduced to me by my uncle when he gave me a copy of their second album Neon Bible a couple of years ago and I was really into it, so I went and got Funeral and after that I was hooked. Over summer I heard that Arcade Fire was putting out a new album so of course I was extremely excited. I got the album The Suburbs the day it came out excited to listen to it because of the entire hoe it was getting. Every time I opened a web page I saw something about the album so I expected it to be better than their first ones. The album was really good but honestly I was very disappointed it wasn’t nearly as good as their first two albums. Even though it is my favorite it’s still a really good album to get and I suggest you check it out.
Stuff to check out (if you haven’t already heard)
Disable Planets- Reaching (a new refutation of time and space): If you’re into old school jazzy hip-hop you’ll be into this album. Their style is unlike any I have ever heard. Lyrically they’re style is a lot like Tribe called Quest's but more hippy-ish I guess.
Nas- Illmatic: This has been one of my all time favorite albums for as long as i can remember. Nas is one of the best lyricists out there and this album just proves it. It's a lot like most east coast hip-hop talking about selling drugs on the streets but at the same time he has a style all his own.
