On April 14, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit Southern China. After this major quake, many smaller aftershocks occurred injuring and killing many more people.  At least 400 people are dead and many could still be covered with debris after this earthquake hit; along with thousands more were injured. China’s National Radio stated that 90 percent of homes were destroyed in northwest China, but many government buildings and schools are still standing. The schools that have fallen down still could have children trapped under all the debris. During the past few days rescue workers came into the area to try to save more people. Jiegu, China (near the epicenter of the earthquake) may have had the biggest devastation from this horrible event. This Tibetan town had 66 students and 10 teachers found dead at the end of this disaster. Many people with broken bones, and other medical conditions, cannot get the proper attention they need because of broken phone lines and loss of communication.
