Girls Basketball Supports Olay Martha Olay and her younger siblings are learning to cope, with all of the support from Dakota Ridge High School. - Arizona Long Advertising Monday, January 24, 2011 By Arizona Long Martha Olay’s life changed after the tragic loss of her father. Her father was on his way home over winter break when a fatal car accident took his life. The loss was devastating to the Olay family, but with friends and family, they have been able to stay strong and push past the incident. “It feels amazing to know how many people are helping us out. This is just crazy and I didn’t know how much help we would get,’’ Olay said. With a family of five, the benefit game has helped as a financial aid to the family. The support of the community has demonstrated to the Olay family, how caring people can be. “It feels really nice being able to help out a friend and family in need. Martha is such a sweet girl and she deserves to be surrounded by those who love her,” freshman Jae Ferrin said. There was a girls basketball game to benefit the Olay family on Thursday January 20, that accepted donations for the family. Any person who made a five dollar donation was entered into a raffle. The raffle prizes were awarded during varsity halftime that included a X-Box 360 with Kinect, $600 Fuji Mt. Bike, $259 Car Detail, Ipod, and a spa day. Although the Eagles lost the game against Ralston Valley, Dakota Ridge students helped a family in need.
