August 15^th marked the official beginning of Dakota's Cross Country season and the end to two months of summer training, camp, and team nights.

The Eagle 5K, the team's first race and sole fundraiser, was held at Dakota Ridge Saturday the 21st. It designated the season's initial Varsity players; Danny Carney (12) holds the first position on boys Varsity, while McKenna Spillar (11) clinched the number one girls spot.

“I'm very excited about the amount of team work we have been showing,” says Mike Callor, head coach, “there's a family feel unlike there has been in recent years.”

This feeling undoubtedly comes from the nearly 20 summer runs the team partook in since mid-June. This included trail exercises, that are typically followed by team outings to local eateries, and the occasional boys and girls “nights”, which are hosted at the homes of various team members.

In addition, the team held its annual four day summer camp at Windy Peak, a Jeffco facility located on the outskirts of Pike National Forest. Camp activities ranged from trail runs to team bonding through games, cabin assignments, and team building initiatives.

The team is proving to be a strong, tight family this year and is hoping to have a great season!
