At-a-glance

A Grimm view on classic fairytales. - IMDb

NBC’s Grimm is a dramatic new series based on the classic Grimm’s fairy tales. The show revolves around detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) who works homicide cases in Portland, Oregon. Nick begins seeing things he can’t quite explain, like a beautiful woman suddenly transforming into a revolting hag or an average Joe turning into a ferocious troll.

Only after a visit from his only living relative does Burkhardt realize he is a descendant of an elite group of hunters known as “Grimms”, who are charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world.

As he hides this new found calling from his fiancé, Juliette Silverton (Bitsie Tulloch), and partner, Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby), Nick must face off mythical creatures. Hexenbiests, Blutbads, and Ziegevolk are just some of the monsters Nick must deal with; however, he must also face all manner of ancient evils, including royal lines dating back to the original Grimm Brothers themselves.

Alaina Kwan, 11, shares her thoughts on the new show. “It’s okay I mean it’s a take on Grimm fairy tales and its kind of interesting. I mean it’s okay, it’s not the best show ever. I think it’s only for certain audiences. If you really like fairy tales and modern mythical genre then you’d like it, otherwise not really.”

Kylie Mastroni, 9, says, “I tried watching the first episode and I thought it seemed like a good show, I might try watching it again sometime.”

From executive producers David Greenwalt (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Jim Kouf (National Treasure) comes a whole new world of police work where all cases have a mythical storybook connection, but not always a happily ever after.

Check out Grimm on NBC Fridays at 9/8 central.
