After the recent lockout in the 2004-2005 season, the NHL, players, and owners are once again disputed over revenue. The lockout went into effect at 12:01 AM on September 16th.

“We were extremely disappointed to have to make today’s announcement. The game deserves better, the fans deserve better, and the people who derive income from their connection to the NHL deserve better.” NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said in a statement.

There is a current stalemate over $3.3 billion in revenue. The players offered to take less future revenue for equal shares. The NHL wanted to cut back players’ salaries during the upcoming season.

With the players out of work, many are choosing to sign contracts overseas in Europe. The players union and the NHL are currently discussing, but seem to have trouble focusing on the important issues.

“We remain committed to doing everything in our power to forge anagreement that is fair to the players, fair to the teams and good for the fans. This is not about winning or losing a negotiation. This is about finding asolution that preserves the long term health and stability of the league andthe game,” said Bill Daly.

Currently, the first two weeks of the 2012-2013 season have been canceled. There looks to be no end in sight over the labor dispute. Players received 57 percent in the old revenue deal.

“If the owners truly cared about the game and the fans, they wouldlift the lockout and allow the season to begin while negotiations continue,” NHL Players Association Executive Director Don Fehr said in a statement.

The lockout continues as owners and the players union remain at odds over splitting the revenue. The whole season was shut down during the 2004-2005 lockout. Fans are hopeful that a deal will be made soon so they can watch the game they have been waiting for.

However things are not looking up for the NHL, the players, and the fans.
