Today, Reality TV is a hit. With shows like Survivor, Big Brother and Flavor of Love being its top staples. You’d think it was all over when you turned off the television. Well, its not. When you come to school you might expect a few security cameras for the protection of the students and teachers. But when is a few cameras, a few cameras to many.

At the grade-level assemblies the seniors, juniors, and sophomores all thought it would be a boring refresher of what was already know from last year. Contrary to belief, they were told that things will be tighter than before. Security has been revamped completely. This probably scared the freshmen, as well as the new comers to The View. At the assembly, everyone was introduced to the new security guard, and then they were told about the three new cameras.

The assemblies had everyone asking questions like, “Why are they cracking down on the cell phones so bad now,” and “Since when did school become boot camp?” Administration failed to answer these questions so The Constitution did their research and can accurately tell you what you would like to know.

A couple of phone calls and interviews were conducted, and despite the cooperation that the administration in the building did not provide, a helpful Head of Security for the LRSD, Bobby Jones said, “All schools received new security cameras and systems…[since] the all color cameras are relatively inexpensive now.”

Almost a decade ago, black and white cameras were about $500 each, and now all color cameras are about three quarters of that price.

All schools were upgraded to the Honeywell Security System, and the new cameras are what resulted from this upgrade. Jones said, “The number of cameras installed [as well as the placement] was at the discretion of the principal.”

Even though the principal would not tell the student body that where the cameras were, The Constitution found out for you. They were placed at the exit by the band and choir rooms, on the band and choir hallway and the last one is conveniently located on top of the other camera behind the gym.

Other schools in LRSD told their students they same thing that the administration told Parkview at the assemblies. They all say, “It’s for the protection of everyone that attends the school.”

There are so many things going on and everyone’s safety is at stake. The cameras are on every hallway and almost every entrance and exit is covered as well. They are around and aren’t going away, so they might as well be accepted and ignored.
