The first year of high school – the freshman year. For some, its their most tortured year of high school; for others its one of four years of excellence. And for everybody else; it’s just another year of school. Ninety percent, of freshmen that were asked said they like high school. Ninth grader, Jonathan Evans says, “High school is better than middle school because I get respected like I should.”

The ninth grade is one of the best times of people’s lives; it’s also one of the most strenuous times. Freshman, Kaitlynn Fountain says, “I like high school, but it is stressful.” Many freshmen agree, but for some high school is just “easy-breezy.” “I think that high school is fairly easy,” says ninth grader, Alicia Amos.

We all know how it feels to be in ninth grade, and everyone feels differently about the new freshmen. Sophomore, Victorya Van Pelt says,” Well, the way I see it is that they [freshmen] are new to the school and surrounded by a new environment, so I think that they need a little help to get used to it. You could say that they are very mindful, and I think that they will bring a lot to the school.” Some people think quite highly of the freshmen, like junior, Sally Hughes, “I think that the freshmen this year have a lot of potential to be leaders.”

With the majority of the 295 “potential leaders” coming from the same middle school, it makes it easier because you already know almost all of your class. “I was more comfortable and looking forward to the classes I had with my friends,” says Deanna Diles, a freshman from Horace Mann.

Many ninth graders had problems getting to where they needed to be, even with the help of upper-classmen. Chris Bishop says, “This school is a lot bigger than my old one, I can barely find my classes, but besides that, it’s fun.”

It seems that the freshmen class of 2010 is adjusting to high school quite well, but the question is: Can the freshmen handle being Parkview Patriots?
