Cinematic: What movies will be hot this summer? Embed This Article
With school soon to be finished, what is a teenager to do? Here are a couple of movies that might make it big or might just crash and burn this summer.
• Up!--May 29
Pixar really outdid itself with it’s hot summer blockbuster, Up! Remember that Up! is an animation and should not give you any idea whatsoever to tie thousands of balloons to your house because you’re tired of life.
• My Life in Ruins--June 5
It’s the return of a Greek--themed movie. My Life in Ruins is the sequel to the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. For those of you who are familiar with My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Georgia finds love in this upcoming summer movie.
• Imagine That--June 12
Eddie Murphy stars in a kid--friendly comedy. He finds his problems solved by his daughter’s imaginary friends. Imagine That could be Murphy’s finest comedy since Dr. Dolittle, obviously excluding the Shrek movies.
• The Proposal--June 19
Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds star in the movie The Proposal. It’s about a “Boss--from--hell” getting into a hasty engagement with her perpetually abused assistant. Will there be regret in the air? Hmm, most probably.
• Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen--June 24
I can’t really give you any information about Transformers, due to the plot being under wraps. But, of course, its Transformers, the movie is obviously going to be a blockbuster. Starring Shia LeBeouf, Megan Fox, and Josh Duhamel.
• Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs--July 1
Ice Age returns to the big screen with a whole new adventure with a new character, Buck the one-eyed weasel. Manny and Elle are expecting their baby and Scrat the squirrel tries to nab his nut and maybe find true love along the way. The film will be in 3D in select theaters.
• Public Enemies--July 1
Johnny Depp and Christian Bale star in the Great Depression-era film, Public Enemies. Depp and Bale work against one another while the FBI tries to put a stop to organized crime. Public Enemies features a strong cast including Fighting’s Channing Tatum and Marion Cotillard.
• Bruno--July 10
Just another Sacha Baron Cohen film…I’m predicting it will be like another one of his films, Borat. Cohen plays the flamboyantly gay Austrian Fashionista, Bruno. The film has the same documentary format as his previous film.
• Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince--July 10
HARRY POTTER, HARRY POTTER! Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will most definitely be the hottest blockbuster of the summer. Can you say “Sold Out”? Harry, Ron, and Hermione are in their 6th year in Hogwarts and are seeing another sort of magic in the air: teenage hormones.
• Orphan--July 24
This summer’s horror movie. Little kids, playgrounds, elementary school, sanctity of home. Sometimes your background papers may not show how innocent you may be.
• They Came From Upstairs--July 31
High School Musical alum Ashley Tisdale stars in the animated family comedy. A family is forced to defend its vacation home against a gaggle of unfriendly aliens from well, upstairs.
Movies to help bring in the new school year
• G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra-- August 7
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is based on the popular animated cartoon from the mid 1980s. Channing Tatum and the rest of the cast explore the beginnings of the nefarious Cobra organization.
• Bandslam--August 14
Another family-friendly comedy… oh no! With two Disney stars in the cast you can pretty much say this movie won’t be that interesting. Vanessa Hudgens and Alyson Michalka star in Bandslam. I sense a bad movie.
• The Time Traveler’s Wife-- August 14
The Time Traveler’s Wife is based on Audrey Niffenegger’s popular novel. Rachel McAdams plays a librarian wife who has a habit of, well…time traveling. …A love that transcends time.
• Inglourious Basterds-- August 21
When Brad Pitt stars in a movie, it has to be good. In WWII, Jewish-American troops are on the hunt for Nazi scalps in France. There will be gore.
• Final Destination: Death Trip--August 28
It’s Final Destination, but this one will revolve around the survivors of a car race gone wrong. This installment will be the first to be shot in 3D.
This summer will bring some good movies, hot blockbusters, and the movies people wish would go straight to DVD.
So, this summer instead of sitting at home or spending the day outside in the scorching heat, go to the movies and watch one of this summer’s blockbusters.
Have a safe and exciting summer! (:
