At-a-glance

Editorial: District was right to close the schools Embed This Article
We believe the district did the right thing by following the Laredo Health Department’s orders to close all campuses and offices due to the threat of the H1N1 Influenza A virus, also known as the swine flu.
Closing the district probably helped keep students and adult staff from possibly spreading the infection.
Laredo Morning Times stories, using the Laredo Health Department as a source, said two United Independent School District Middle school students tested positive for the H1N1 Influenza A virus. (Since then, three more have tested positive.)
However, we are bothered the schools reopened after one week instead of two, as originally ordered by the health department, while news stories report more and more H1N1 cases worldwide.
The Magnet Tribune urges you to protect yourself and others by washing your hands frequently, coughing or sneezing into your inner elbow, and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. See the school nurse if you feel sick, and if you are sick, then stay home.
