Taylor Swift-Speak Now

I’ll admit, I wasn’t always a Taylor Swift fan, but this album changed my mind. Speak Now was released on October 25, 2010 and it didn’t take long for the sales to sky rocket. Speak Now has been called edgier than her other albums, while sounding more pop, then pop country. I beg to differ. Swift has done an amazing job with this album by being her true self and still sticking to country (thank God!) after all, that is what she is famous for.

There are 14 tracks on the standard edition (22 on deluxe, which I will be talking about), and I have to say that Haunted is my favorite. I liked it because even if it is one that sounds slightly less country than most of the others, it shows amazing vocals and you can actually feel the meaning behind her voice and the lyrics.

My second favorite (though totally different), is Sparks Fly. However, I do get the hint that these two songs might be about the same guy due to the lyrics.

“Get me with those green eyes baby as the lights go down; give me something that’ll haunt me when you’re not around”

That seems like a little more than a coincidence in my opinion. And Swift’s reputation for writing almost every single song about someone who she has dated doesn’t exactly argue with my theory either. But who’s to blame her? She writes some pretty amazing songs about those boys.

One of those is titled Enchanted. The song is a story of meeting someone new, and  It is one of my favorite  songs off the album, starting slow, working its way up to the lyrics,

This night is sparkling; don’t you let it go, I’m wonderstruck, blushing all the way home, I'll spend forever wondering if you knew I was enchanted to meet you”

Another extremely cute song off the album is Ours. It’s about people judging you, but you shouldn’t let them bother you. I know I’m putting a lot of lyrics out of every song, but I just have to include these lyrics:

“Don't you worry your pretty little mind; People throw rocks at things that shine”.

One song that I have to give an honorable mention to is Back To December. This song had a music video released this January. The music video suits the song perfectly (except the fact that the guy isn’t tan like mentioned in some of the lyrics) Back To December is also a very sad song even though it’s somewhat an apology to whomever she wrote it about (most likely Taylor Lautner). Fans are even saying that she threw hints into the music video so that people would know who it is about.

One of the other sad songs on the album is Dear John (this one is obviously about John Mayer). They supposedly had a short relationship after Swift was featured in one of Mayer’s songs. A couple of other sad songs include:  If This Was a Movie and Last Kiss, which I think is the saddest.

However, the album doesn’t just include sad songs. Some great songs are Mean, Better Than Revenge, and The Story Of Us.

If you’ve never listened or been interested in Taylor Swift before, I say this is the album to start. She has a large variety of songs that can relate to different people in different situations. She is overall just a great writer, who writes great music.
