At-a-glance

Flowers are blooming, the temperature is rising, and summer is right around the corner.  Almost everyone has been waiting for summer since the first snowflake hit the ground.  We’ve missed the smell of fresh cut grass and the feeling of warm sunshine on our skin. Everyone has their own idea of summer fun.

Junior Kayla Jones said, “This summer I’m going to babysit and hopefully I’ll be going to Florida.”  She’s not the only one planning to have a good time this summer.  Senior Colton Phelps said, “I have my spring and summer workouts for college, so that’ll keep me pretty busy.  Plus, I’ll be doing other stuff like fishing and spending time with my family. I’m planning on making this a memorable summer.”

There are so many ways you can spend your summer break but it can be difficult to think of things to do.  Some of us end up spending our whole summer doing the same old things like watching T.V., getting on the computer, and so on.  For some people that is there idea of summer fun. But maybe you want to make this summer more exciting.  Here are some ideas that could help make this summer your best summer yet.

Swimming:
When it’s hot outside and all you can think about is cooling off, go for a swim. Just jump in and have a good time.  Go to your local YMCA, for example in Hamilton or Fairfield.

Boating:
If you’ve got a boat, plan a weekend with your family to take it out on the water. Even if you don’t have a boat you can rent one and spend the whole day out on the sparkling water.  If you’ve never been to Brookeville Lake, go check it out. It’s seems to be a great place to go boating.

Camping:
Plan a weekend with your family and friends to go camping at Winton Woods Forest Park or any camp ground of your choice.  Don’t have the money to stay at a camp ground?  No worries, you can camp in your own back yard!

Concerts:
What’s more fun than going to a concert on a warm summer day?  Save up your money and go enjoy your favorite bands sing live in concert.  Here are some upcoming concerts in the area that may suit your music tastes:

  •          Jason Aldean on May 20, 2011

  •    Neon Trees on May 26, 2011
  •    Hollywood Undead on May 30, 2011
  •    Phish on June 5, 2011
  •          Kenny Chesney on June 30, 2011

  •    Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow on July 2, 2011
  •    Def Leppard with Heart on July 7, 2011
  •    Goo Goo Dolls, Michelle Branch, and Parachute on July 13, 2011

  •    Rascal Flatts, Sara Evans, Easton Corbin, and Justin Moore on July 22, 2011
  •    Tim Mcgraw with Luke Byran and The Band Perry on July 31, 2011
  •    Warped Tour on August 2, 2011
  •           Jimmy Buffett on August 23, 2011

  •           Kings of Leon on August 24, 2011

Vacations:
Plan a vacation to somewhere you’ve always wanted to go.  The beach, the mountains, any-where.  If you don’t have the money, save up your money to take your dream vacation next summer.

Parks:
Get together with a friend and go to a nearby park like Heritage Park just outside of Ross. Pack a delicious lunch and make it an all day event.

Ice cream:
When it’s hot outside, sometimes ice cream is exactly what is needed to cool us down.  Go to your local ice cream parlor, perhaps The Whip, located in Ross.

Lightning bugs:
No matter how old we are, it’s still fun to catch lightning bugs.  When the sun starts to set, grab a jar and go catch some lightning bugs.

As you can see, there are so many ways you can spend your summer, you just have to get creative.  Hopefully this gives you ideas to make this a summer to remember!
