A new law was passed that states anyone under 18 (or anyone else with a GDL license) will no longer have a fully unrestricted license. Starting March 30th teens will not be allowed to drive between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5a.m. Also, only one non-immediate family member is allowed in the car.
However, there are exceptions: “A GDL Level 2 driver cannot carry more than one passenger under the age of 21, unless: Those under 21 years of age passengers are members of the drivers immediate family; or if driving to and from school, or a school-sanctioned event,” said R. Baker from the Secretary of State. If you are driving to or from work you may also be out between the 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The purpose is to decrease teen car accidents and deaths, for it
is the number one cause of teen deaths.
“Statistics in states that have these restrictions in their law for young drivers show a much lower number of deaths for 16 and 17 year olds,” said driving instructor Brad Jones.
Many students are under the impression that if they already have their GDL 2, even though they are under 18, they are grandfathered in. This is not the case, for all of the new restrictions are put into place for all GDL 2 holders.
