The State Games of Michigan and State Games of America held an over the summer running competition in San Diego, California. The State Games of America are only held once, every two years. Brothers Luke, 12th grade, and Gabe Hawley, 9th grade, competed in this competition, both from East Jordan High School (EJHS).
If an athlete wants to enter/register as an individual according to State Games of America they recommend the athlete register online through Coach O. and put Unattached as the Team Name. If registering as a team, they recommend the coach to register online through Coach O. and may enter in multiple athletes at one time.
Online (Coach O): Registration = $12; Each Event = $3; Mail-In: 1st Event = $18; Each Additional Events - $3 each
Luke Hawley, age 17, a senior from East Jordan tells what he felt on this competition, “I wanted to compete because it was a good chance to show that I can compete with the best and win. I was excited to compete with the best knowing it would be an experience of a life time.”
Luke ran and placed 1st in the 5000m (3.1miles) and the 1500m (1 mile), but placed 3rd in the 800m (1/2 mile). Luke hopes to compete again when the time comes for the competition.
