Members of Loyalsock’s ski club wish for snow to fall on the hills of Ski Sawmill, where they go once a week to spend time skiing or snowboarding.

Advisor and founder of Ski Club, Mrs. June formed the first ski club group in 2005. Since then, more members have joined each year with year’s the club total at 42 skiers and snowboarders who all encourage more people to join and learn how to ski or snowboard. “Snowboarding is so much fun, especially with the new people that join. Watching them learn is hilarious, let’s go shred snow!” voiced by Craig Fought, who has been part of ski club for several years. A bus takes students to sawmill eight times a season, once a week on alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It takes forty-five minutes to get there, then the club stays four hours, if a student wishes to drive to Ski Sawmill permission must be granted from Mrs. June.

Students who wish to join ski club must pay their club dues and fill out information given by Mrs. June. Students may rent gear such as skis for $15, also lessons are provided by workers of Sawmill, an individual lesson is $ 20 as a group lesson is $ 5.  Students are advised to be careful and not try any impossible tricks. Mrs. June shared, “On our first trip ever to Sawmill, we had four injuries, a lacerated spleen, fractured tail bone, broken collar bone, and a concussion. But skiing is safe, if you choose to ski safe!” Skiing can be dangerous if the appropriate rules aren’t followed, so a parent’s consent is required to join ski club as well.

Skiing and snowboarding may have ups and downs, but there is always an interesting story to tell. “You get the chance to shut your brain off and live in the moment.” stated by ten year snowboarder, Kyle Winton who loves to snowboard and goes to Sawmill every chance he gets.  With many hills that fit beginner or advanced skill levels, everyone can choose which hill suites them. To conclude, snowboarding and skiing are very fun and safe activities if the student chooses to obey rules, and joining the Loyalsock High School Ski Club could be an interesting experience.
