How many students can the stage at the Community Arts Center Hold? Well, on February 7th, it held three-hundred and fifty of Loyalsock’s choir members in the second annual All District Choir Concert. The evening was filled with music performed by students of all different ages. Something very special about this particular performance is that you can see how musical talent grows with age, and how a group improves over time. Beginning with the youngest children in Fourth and Fifth grade, and ending with the most experienced High School Lancer Choir, a wide variety of music was show cased this evening.
The Finale of the All District Concert is probably the most difficult piece of the entire night but yet the most memorable. Trying to fit three hundred and fifty of us on stage is one challenge, but successfully conducting that many children and adding dance moves? That’s a whole different story. Elementary school kids don’t exactly behave with the same maturity as a high school student either. “This is so annoying!” says Rebecca Anderson. “Why they couldn’t just stop talking and listen I will never understand.” However, some students enjoyed working with the younger kids. “They were just so cute! I wonder if we were that cute when we were little.” Katie Keith has always loved little kids, and watching them perform musically was very entertaining for her.
Mr. Barrett, the director of the Loyalsock High School Band, was along to help with keeping things in order. The next day at school, he told his students just how great he thought the concert was and how much he enjoyed it. “The concert last night was wonderful, by far surpassing last year’s concert.” A very successful and enjoyable concert for all ages, this year’s District Choir Concert will be something that students remember for a very long time.
