The Dominator, created by local Marylanders, is a superhero comic that supports children suffering from cancer.
     The comic was created by David Anderson, written by Tony Calandra, and illustrated by Nathan Getz who have all been friends since high school and grew up in Bel Air. It was created based off of the life story of 6 year-old, Dominic Osorio, who has been battling glioma or brain cancer for the past 2 years.
     Osorio does not allow his brain cancer to affect his morale.  After multiple unsuccessful attempts at chemotherapy, his mother, Nicole Spagna, consented to having Osario undergo radiation in November 2008.  During radiation, Osario needed to wear a mask that is fully fitted to his face and was bolted down to his stretcher so that he would not move while being treated.  ““This is what made him believe he was a superhero,” she said. “We never told Dominic that he had cancer, he has always called it a megazoid on his brain.”
    Spagna derived the name, The Dominator, from Osario’s name.  “When he put on the mask, he was The Dominator and fighting the megazoid again,” she said. “It worked from December 19 to February 2 2008(the time period in which he underwent rediation,) he laid completely still for the 10 to 12 minutes for the radiation. With the help of Kennedy Krieger Institute he could fight this megazoid.”
     On September 26, 2009, Dominic celebrated his seventh birthday at Chili’s in Bel Air, to raise additional money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
