This year Westville Newspaper is no longer just a newspaper class, but also a journalism class. Mrs. Miranda B. Cain recently went to a summer multimedia workshop called the Oklahoma Multimedia Teacher’s Workshop at the University of Oklahoma. There she got the idea to do broadcasts, and online blogging with videos and pictures pertaining to the articles. The best news this year is that now you no longer have to buy your newspaper from the school, instead you can just check it out online for free! When asked why she decided to change the program Mrs. Cain replied, “When I went to the Oklahoma Multimedia Teacher’s workshop in Norman this summer, and they showed me how to bring these aspects into the classroom with little cost to our school, I thought this sounded like a good option for WHS.” Mrs. Cain also said, “My goals for this program are to give our students the opportunity to experience as many aspects of media and journalism as possible, and also for our students to see that they can enter the field of journalism in their adult lives!” The newspaper class would also like to thank the Gifted and Talented and Mrs. Pam Smith for their generous donation for the new camera equipment! To check out our new broadcasts go to http://www.schooltube.com and search for “The Buzz Newz.” Our first show should be posted by mid-September. You can also find The Buzz Online at http://my.hsj.org.
