The letter that was sent home with our report card. -

On November 5, 2009, Principal Colleen Johnson sent a letter home to our parents that included info concerning the grade that the West Side Press gave the dance. The staff graded all aspects of homecoming week, and the dance was the third thing on the list. We do not understand why Principal Colleen Johnson only focused on the dance and not anything else that we graded. We didn't just give the dance a grade we graded everything about the homecoming week, like the D.J and decorations. Only the dance got an f but the newspaper staff graded the dance based upon the unskilled D.J. and the lack of decorations. Mrs. Johnson made it sound like it was just the dance policy, we didn't mind the dance policy so much that we gave the whole dance an "F" they didn't make the whole dance that great in general. Therefore, we interviewed Mrs. Johnson and she said "The note I sent out made a difference, and parents gave positive feedback, They thanked me for notifying them about what's going on with kids." Some parents didn't take the note seriously because by time kids get into high school they may dance how they want to, it's not up to the parents to tell them how they may dance and may not. Our parents don't tell us what to wear. So how are they going to tell us how to dance when they weren't there to witness it. One problem that Principal Colleen Johnson already knows and has stated that "ZWHS and ZEHS are going to lose money because nobody is going to go to the dances if they may not dance how they want to." For next year, she is going to send a note similar to the one she sent with the students' report cards, but this time she is going to send it during the summer. We asked Mrs. Johnson what she thought the kids would do after they got kicked out of the dances and she said "it's not my problem." Some parents say that they would rather have their child dancing in a public place rather than not knowing what their doing somewhere else not supervised.
