Senioritis

What is senioritis? For some it’s the feeling of almost being done with something that you been doing for so long and become lazy and slack off for the remaining time.  Others might say that it’s just the fact that people are just ready so move on and be done with it.  But for every day seniors in high school it’s the joy of the thought that this is their last year of school and it become obvious to them that they don’t have to try as hard as they used to.  Teachers are getting concerned that it will affect how they act as if it was their last day of a job.

Based on what seniors around the school have said most of these facts are true.  Senior Andrew Herber, a student here at Zeeland West high school for three and a half years is happy to almost be done with his senior year.  “I think that we have a right to slack off for the last couple months or weeks because we’ve already put out are best efforts every other year. “Also if they think were going to slack off in a real job then their crazy because obviously that’s way different and more important.” He said.

Strong opinions from other seniors when asked about this topic.  Caleb Houser another senior here at Zeeland West had something he would like to say to this.  “Well I’d just like to say that that is just dumb because obviously we’re going to slack off, its are senior year, what do you expect us to do, sit quietly in class and wait for the year to be done, no I’m going to make it more fun for myself to make it end faster.”  He said strongly.  “Teachers worry to much but I don’t blame them if I had to be stuck in school year after year, of course we won’t slack off in a real job.”  He said.  So this is saying its fine to slack off only for your senior year.

A couple teachers had their own comments on this story.  Mr. Lowe, in charge of campus security has worked at Zeeland west for the years it been here.  He says that he seen lots of signs of senioritis with seniors throughout the years.  “I think it’s to early for senior to start slacking off it should be later towards the last weeks of school.” Basically saying wait till your last couple weeks to kick in senioritis.

So is senioritis real, of course yes but it really only applies to students who are almost done with their years in high school.  Teachers may have their own opinions but it’s not a fact or a true statement that say they’re going to end up slacking off in a job.  For example say a doctor has an emergency surgery to go into and it’s his last week on the job he’s not just going to slack off and lets the person die.  So teacher may have their opinions but the true fact is it just us senior who are excited to be done with school.
