The metal shop at West. This is where electives live. - Vannor Han

Required core classes, stress the majority of high school students. Electives are the classes that help them relax during the day. Some students choose easy elective classes to get an easy “A” if they have bad grades in a core class or don’t try in it at all. Electives should be held in the same light as a core class. They shouldn’t be chosen for an easy grade, but for fun or for interest.
Jr. Matt Mulder says, “There’s too much, too much expectations.” To the question of, is the required amount enough or too much? Mulder feels that it’s not fair that core classes are usually viewed in a better light than electives. He also believes it’s a bad idea that many electives will be lost in favor of more core type classes. He also wishes he could have taken more electives but the required amount of core classes clashes with what he wants for his schedule. Mulder also believes it’s much more important to be inspired by his electives than taking all these core classes for the entirety of his high school career.
Jr. Billy Giesken was asked the question “Do you think core classes are a waste of time?” he responded with “No, some of them are necessary, but I think we should be able to choose if we wish to continue a subject if say we had an A in it. I do think that we have to continue a subject if we had lower than a C-.” Giesken believes it’s fair that core classes are viewed better than electives. Mainly for the reason that some people see electives as important as core classes. Giesken believes it’s not that important to be inspired by electives over core classes. “Electives are great and all but they don’t give you everything that’s needed, so we need a better balance of classes.” Billy strongly believes that core and elective classes should be viewed and weighed equally.
Jr. Brandon Saetern feels that some of the math/English classes are unnecessary. “I think we need more electives, involved with less school work, but much more life-related work.” Brandon also think it’s a bit fair that core classes are viewed in a somewhat better light than electives. He thinks that you do in fact need some of the classes, but not all of them. Brandon also believes mainly that English and math are the biggest waste of time of the core classes. He believes that it’s unnecessary to learn all these math formulas if you probably won’t use them in the career(s) you choose to pursue. For English he believes that not everyone loves to read like others, so he thinks they should be free to choose a different class, elective or English related or a completely different subject.
