The familiar Friday Morning Rap did not get approved in time for the Tritons home football matchup against Green Bay West on September 10, but it wasn’t rejected because it was inappropriate, offensive, or uncalled for. Fan Man and his rap squad were simply late in seeking approval.

As the handbook clearly states on page ten, “Any student who wishes to submit an announcement must have the announcement typed out and approved by the Associate Principal by 2 p.m. the day prior to the announcement being read.”

“I think this is a somewhat crazy rule because not everyone can get those kinds of things in on time, and raps are a very time-consuming art. They take hard work and dedication, and unless we work on them like all hours of the week, they sometimes might not be done by Thursday afternoon, because we must smooth out the flaws and make it sound legitimate,” said Bijan Ramirez, a junior on the rap squad.

Some may be thinking that there should be an exception to this rule, as the Friday Morning Raps are ‘tradition,’ a tradition that really increases school pride for the night’s football game.

"Rules are rules, and they need to be the same for everyone,” said senior Mike Lagerman, the school’s recently appointed ‘Fan Man.’ “If one person thinks he can break the rules, then others will too, and it really throws off the whole justice system.”

The rap was eventually performed that night before the football game, still giving some students a respectable amount of spirit, but most students agreed it didn’t have quite the same effect as it does in the morning.

“We learned our lesson, and although it was disappointing, we will make sure that the situation never ever happens again!” said Lagerman.

Other members of the squad include seniors Brett Brusda, Alexander Ribeiro, Macall Biebel and occasionally other students.

This week, the Notre Dame Academy Tritons will take on the Preble Hornets in a fierce city matchup after recently defeating the Bay Port Pirates.

Libertas Treatment Center is sponsoring a free pig roast before the game and the dance team will be performing at halftime with future members of the Triton Pom squad.  The game will begin at 7:00 sharp.
