Invisible Children To Visit NDA November 11
Advertising

Imagine a teenager from Uganda constantly on the move, walking many miles at night trying to avoid soldiers who are abducting children. Suddenly a fast-moving jeep chases the teenager and abducts him.

According to Invisible Children.com, an estimated one million people have been without a home for more than a decade as a result of the conflicts of Africa’s longest running war.

“After watching last year’s video I came to realize that even though we will never get to meet these children they desperately need our help and prayers,” said Spencer Keebler, NDA junior. “Their struggles are unimaginable.”

The Invisible Children Foundation is a staff of hundreds of volunteers that rebuild schools, provide scholarships and instruct families of northern Uganda about basic living and job-related skills when they return home from war campsites.

“This group is a fantastic organization, and I can’t wait for this year’s assembly,” said Christian Londo, also a junior.

On November 11, the Invisible Children Foundation will be coming back to Notre Dame Academy to thank the student body and faculty for last year’s generous donation and to give an update on the war and the progress of their rebuilding efforts.

Ugandan children will be in attendance during the assembly telling some of their own personal stories.

This year’s program will include the selling of wire bracelets along with other merchandise such as shirts, bags and books.

“It is important for our students to know the story of the Ugandan children because we need to be in touch with our brothers and sisters around the world, especially those in need,” said Sr. Laura Zelten.

Student Government chose this organization for Spring Week last year because all money donated goes directly to the program.

During their trip to Green Bay, six “Roadie Representatives” and Ugandan children will be staying at the homes of  English teacher Carolyn Brown, Sr. Laura and several other faculty members.

Look for the posters with the “Face to Face” logo and descriptions of war survival that have been placed around the school.

“The Invisible Children Foundation remains committed to supporting a generation of families displaced by war so that they can finally know peace,” says a representative of the organization.
