Well, Triton sports fans, it’s that time of year again. The jump balls have been tossed, the trash talk has begun and Intramural Basketball is back and better than ever at NDA.

The season began this weekend, Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Teams were ready to go bright and early to start their quest for the coveted Intramural title.

“It’s a great opportunity for the kids who aren’t in organized sports to get involved,” said Mr. Brian Bobinski, math teacher at NDA and JV boys basketball coach.

Intramural Basketball at NDA is open to all students, boys and girls, freshmen through seniors, who are not involved in a winter sport—that is, boys and girls basketball and boys and girls hockey.

The cost is $25, which includes the activity fee, unless you have already paid $30, in which case it is only $15 to cover the cost of running Intramurals and paying for t-shirts.

“We’re ready to beat everyone and anything that comes our way,” said senior Intramural participant Spencer Keebler. “No one can stop us, not even that trash faculty team.”

Last year, according to some, the faculty team won the regular season, a team that included  players such as Mr. Bobinski, Mr. Peter Weiss of the theology department,  Mr. Chris Nowak, a coach and substitute teacher,  Mr. Jeff Bins, an NDA grad and others.  However, students involved in Intramurals beg to differ with Mr. Bobinski, who claims this is true.

The champions of the post-season tournament last year were a group of senior boys who have since then graduated. Their team included Peter Mortell, Michael Sullivan, Hossein Jazzyeri and Nick Prebelski and were two-time defending champs.

“Kids from all levels of skill come to play every Saturday morning,” said Mr. Bobinski. “It doesn’t matter if you’re amazing or terrible, everyone has a good time.”

Intramurals is a judgment-free zone, where everyone can play to his own ability and still have fun. It’s as much fun as you make it, and players always make the most of their experiences.

Players this year are very excited for the time they will spend in the gym every Saturday morning.

“I’m going to have to say I’m by far the best shooter on the team,” said senior class president Alex Lech, who refers to himself as The Czar.

“Yeah, Lech is the worst shooter on our team,” said Lech’s teammate and Captain Spencer Keebler. “He has a defensive presence, but that’s about all he’s good for.”

So whether you’re an all star, or you don’t know the first thing about shooting a basketball, if you love to play or just need something to do on a Saturday morning, find a team, don’t forget to pay your activity fee, and come to have fun. Spectators and fans are welcomed.
