In January, the well-known burger chain, In-N-Out, bought the 1.17-acre vacant lot at 1260 W. Valley Parkway for 2.1 million dollars. An In-N-Out drive through is expected to open at this location behind Coco’s and Del Taco, and around other fast food places such as Jack in the Box and McDonald’s.

After nearly two decades of waiting and having to travel all the way to San Marcos just to order a double-double, Escondido residents will finally have their wish for an In-N-Out in their own town. 

In 1991, In-N-Out planned to open a restaurant on El Norte Parkway, but the project did not take place due to an altercation regarding the restaurant’s sign. In-N-Out requested a freeway sign larger than city policy allowed, so the establishment of the restaurant in Escondido was postponed.

Last year, Escondido City Council’s economic development subcommittee unanimously agreed that In-N-Out’s sign proposal should be granted. City officials claim that the absence of an In-N-Out in Escondido has been a major grievance among Escondido residents for some time.
