In September four students from Borrego Springs High School attended a leadership-training course at UCSD. Joey Propati, Bela Torres, Annie Theriault, and Maya Eckhardt took part in the ropes course challenge at UCSD; their teacher, Alan Shepard, accompanied them.
They spent the day with 30 other teens from San Diego County. The majority of the day the teens were broken up into four work teams. The work teams each did a variety of team building activities. The activities were team tasks that seemed impossible at first, but with teamwork they could be accomplished.
In one of the activities the teams had to help each member retrieve a stuffed animal 5 feet away. The team couldn’t step out of a designated circle or touch the ground in any way. The team had to lower each individual and help him or her retrieve the toy. “It was really scary being almost parallel to the ground and supported by people you barely knew, but it was a lot of fun. I felt great once I finished,” said Annie Theriault.
The teens also got to climb a ropes course at the end of the day. The course had many ropes, rock walls, poles, ladders, and other various obstacles. All four teens from Borrego enjoyed the day and met a lot of new people.
En septiembre, cuatro estudiantes de la High School de Borrego Springs atendieron a un curso de dirección-entrenamiento en UCSD. Joey Propati, Bela Torres, Annie Theriault, y Maya Eckhardt participaron en Ropes Course Challenge en UCSD; su profesor, Alan Shepard, los acompaño.
Pasaron el día con otros 30 adolescentes del condado de San Diego. La mayoría del día, los adolescentes se dividieron en cuatro equipos de trabajo. Los equipos trabajaron, è hicieron una variedad de actividades de equipo. Las actividades eran las tareas del equipo que parecían imposibles al principio, pero trabajando en equipo pudieron lograrlas.
En una de las actividades los equipos tuvieron que ayudar a cada miembro a recuperar un animal relleno 5 pies lejos. El equipo no podría caminar de un círculo señalado o tocar la tierra de ninguna manera. El equipo tuvo que bajar a cada individuo y ayudarle a recuperar el juguete. “Me asuste mucho por que casi estaba paralela al suelo y me esta deteniendo gente que yo ni conocía” dijo Annie Theriault.
Las adolescentes también subieron un curso de cuerdas al final del día. El curso tenía muchas cuerdas, paredes de piedra, postes, escaleras, y varios obstáculos. Los cuatro adolescentes de Borrego gozaron el día y conocieron a mucha gente nueva.
