The Varsity football team beat Bechwood on Friday 24-21 in what turned out to be a close game. Three touchdowns were called back on the Colonels due to penalties during the game.
Gabriel Gray ran for an 80 yard touchdown to bring the Colonels back into the game after falling behind 21-7. Gabriel finished on the night with 177 yards for 17 carries with 9.3 yards/avg. All this running was made possible thanks to some terrific blocking by Tim Connaughton, Cary Thaxton, Jake Read, Max Halpin and Bradley Way. Alex Slabaugh and Leo Schafer also turned in excellent running performances. Alex Slabaugh and Alex Connelly scored the other two touchdowns in the game. Evan Talkers kicked a 31 yard field goal to put the Colonels up 24-21 for the win.
The defense put up a great performance lead by Paul Ritter, Troy Timmerman, Jake Nienaber, Joe Sizemore, and DJ Powell. The defense shut down Bechwood’s offense in the second half after giving up 21 points in the first half. The defense ended up winning the battle forcing 4 turnovers.
The Colonels next game is next Friday against New Cath at Newport high school.
