Some seniors enjoy their service packing toys. - Bill Snyder

Covington Catholic has prided itself on its community service efforts since the program’s creation. Since that time, thousands of hours have been completed by willing students who help out for the school, for the disabled, for the impoverished, and many other worthy causes. Every year there are favorite events and service opportunities that are consistently full of volunteer workers. Such events include the CCH Spaghetti Dinner, Steinford Toys, and the Special Olympics. The community service director, Mr. Bill Snyder, has worked hard to procure opportunities for students to meet the required fifteen hours of service per year and has assisted many to go above and beyond that requirement and achieve, in many cases, over forty service hours every year. The total student body service requirement is 7,500 hours every year, but the students consistently go above that requirement to at least 13,000 hours of service for the past several years. Service is one of the cornerstones of the Covington Catholic tradition and it will continue to be in the future.
This semester holds exciting new service opportunities for students. The Skiing Special Olympics has already taken place and was very successful, and there are more Special Olympics events still to come. The CCH Spaghetti Dinner is held this semester, and there are always available service venues for those who are willing to tutor Prince of Peace or St. Augustine students. This year students have answered the call to serve with gusto. It is with great hope that we look forward to another great semester of community service.
